What is 316L Stainless Steel? (And Why We Use It)
Not all metal is created equal. We explain the science behind the 'Surgical Grade' alloy we use for every card.

You will see the term "316L" all over our website. But is it just marketing jargon? No, it is a specific grade of alloy that makes a huge difference in the quality of your card.
The "L" Stands for Low Carbon
316L is an austenitic stainless steel. It contains molybdenum, which gives it incredible resistance to corrosion. This is why it is often called "Marine Grade" or "Surgical Grade."
Why not Aluminum or Brass?
- Aluminum: Too light. It feels cheap (like a soda can) and scratches easily.
- Brass: Too soft. It tarnishes and turns green over time (oxidizes), which can stain your wallet.
- 316L Steel: It is heavy, hypoallergenic (won't irritate skin), and will never rust, even if you accidentally drop it in the ocean or send it through the washing machine.
When you hold our card, you are holding the same material used in $5,000 Swiss dive watches.
